Journalism Wall of Fame

Almost all of the famous people in history are journalists. In their era they either kept a diary, like Anne Frank during World War 2, or they just wrote whatever they desired. Journalists tend to make a great impression on others. For example, Anderson Cooper became famous for being the first one to prominence as a reporter for CNN during Hurricane Katrina and yet everyone remembers him for his great accomplishment as a journalist. People tend to think journalism is boring because all you have to do is write, but there are other jobs too like photography, or multimedia. I am a photographer and trust me, it can be complicated, but it really is an important job for journalism. In 1943, Geraldo Rivera worked as a journalist for 20/20, ABC, and Good Morning America. He later returned to journalism as an anchor for Fox News and began his own syndicated news program, Geraldo at Large. Most journalists throughout history are not only journalists, but they have their own career outside the journalism world. Most of you know about the upcoming presidential election, and we all know who is running in the race. Candidate Ben Carson, is also an author, surgeon, and a journalist, at the same time he is running for president, he has multiple other careers along with his political life. Reporters have a lot of guidelines to follow, for example Sam Kanu, a Briscoe Jr. High student in journalism quoted, " I have to have four stories to complete by the end of the six weeks, I have to interview people for my stories, and that right there is a challenge, being a reporter is very hard job." I am sure any other reporter would agree with Sam. Reporters have to follow many guidelines, and they cant break any rules. One of the most influential reporters of all time is Diane Sawyer. Sawyer was the first female 60 Minutes correspondent and most recently anchored for ABC World News. Many people say that journalism is boring, but to all the journalists in the world it is thrilling.
IS Homework really helping?
By: Keli Leighty
Homework, is one of the main problem's in schools. Some kids don’t do it and other kids are just totally overwhelmed with so many homework pages. On the other hand homework really helps some kids do better in school like studying for tests. The question is, is homework really helping students do better in school.
Some students at Briscoe Junior High don’t even have time for homework like Katja Reavis . She said, "I'm In the Play "Lord of the Flies, so I have to stay after school to 6:oo P.M.''
Plus Teachers don’t plan together to give what homework on what days. So some days you have no homework and others you have hours of homework, but that’s not the teachers fault they just don’t have time .One of the main issues on homework is that you already spend a full day of school doing work, and they don’t know how much time we spend on homework too.Mya Tipton says, "I spend about two hours doing homework.
Also Chloe Camden says , 'I spend about a hour and a half on my homework.
Do you want to waste your student's precious time outside of school doing worksheets of unnecessary homework?
A few kids don’t even do homework and have zeros for their assignment which make them fail.Or some students just don’t get the homework and have nobody to ask questions too.
The good side of homework is studying for test. Some kids need extra time to study because they need to prepare for test and quizzes.Katja Reavis said with a grin, "You can just study for practice. We already spend about ten hours here at school and we don’t want-a spend one hour doing homework.''
Studying for test really help students get better grades in school (just stating the obvious)and help them get better averages in school. Which in the end helps the students memorize and remember the stuff they learn in all of their classes.
In the end students just do your homework its good for studying purposes and to get all of your bad grades up with your homework credit.

Lord of the Flies
By: Caroline Hutchison
On October 15th Briscoe junior highs theater classes performed a play called The Lord of the Flies.
When asked if she knew most of the people in the play 7th grader Macy Brady said, “No I didn’t because most of them were in 8th grade only 3 were 7th grade as far as I know.”
“The play was amazingly put together! Because the scripts were amazing and they never messed up,” said 7th grader Kelly Leighty when asked if it was well put together.
I like school plays they get you out of school work most of the time. And they are fun to watch. When asked what she thought about the costumes Leighty responded, “I loved the costumes because they matched the scenery very well.”
“Nope they did equally as good and they tried there hardest which is what matters,” said 8th grader Maya Swift when asked if she thought the actors were getting tired for the last performance.
“Yes I really enjoyed it a lot! It was very morbid though.” Swift replied when asked if she enjoyed the play.
When asked if she thought the casting was good swift said, “I think most of them were good actors. They tried there hardest to make the play happen so that’s all that matters.”
I think the lord of the flies play was really a good play! I hope theatre will put on another play this year because it was so awesome.

Foster High School Puts on a Play
Megan O’Donnell & Brittany Moseley
Once upon a time, Foster High School produced a play called ‘Once Upon a Mattress’ and it was a total success.
Briscoe Junior High students went to see Foster’s new interpretation of the story, Princess and the Pea. Foster’s theatrical association kept with the plot line that the prince could only marry a girl if she could feel a pea underneath 20 mattresses put there by the queen; many princesses failed to do this except one.
“I went to play, because I knew it was going to be an amazing interpretation of the story,” said seventh grader Kelsey Poe.
Foster put their spin on the classic by making it a sassy romance story. However, some people disagreed about attending the play.
“I didn’t feel like spending the three dollars on something I knew wouldn’t be interesting to me. I’m positive it was a good play, it’s just not my cup of tea,” said seventh grader Meggie Wang.
